And, perhaps, not a good one.

So yesterday was Friday, basically my one night of the week to relax a little and have a drink or two. I was at one of my neighborhood watering holes when I realized, I've stopped going to the young peoples' college type bars and am now going to the "older people trying to drink like they're in college" type bars. What has become of c1150? Is age catching up with me? Have I become an "Older American"? Granted, I'm greying at the temples [but I'm hoping to cultivate the Nick Fury look, I may start wearing an eye-patch] and have been out of college longer than I care to think about, but really am I that old? Must be time for my nap.

A little good news

I just got some good news! I don't want to jinx it by talking about it too much, but I am pretty happy right now. I'm also dog tired, I really don't like yard work. I also hope it's not too hot for me to sleep today. OK, so maybe I'm not that happy. I'm still happier than I was, what do you want from the advanced scout of the AngryCarl collective? We're not called HappyCarl for a reason.

Movie Review Some One Might Care About

So I just saw Spider-Man 3, it was OK. I'm still digesting what I saw but initial impressions are that it drags a lot in the middle. The effects were decent again, the story was faithful to the source in some respects and wildly different in others. I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil the movie for any one who hasn't seen it.

I guess I just didn't feel the same excitement the I felt for the other two in the series. Some how it just didn't grab me the same way, maybe because I knew the original stories too well.

Apropos of nothing, I'd also like to say I saw trailers for some truly awful looking movies. I mean honestly does the world need another Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker buddy cop movie? That's not rhetorical, the answer is a resounding NO! But the new Bourne movie looks pretty cool.

Turkish coffee

Jean Luc Petard's post about a Mediterranean restaurant got me to thinking about Turkish coffee and how I haven't had that particular delight in a long, long time. Unfortunately, I do not think Turkish coffee is high on the list of eats that the Pennsylvania Dutch are adept at making. They'd probably find some way of slipping pickled beet eggs or scrapple or some abomination in there.

Then, unfortunately, I naturally start down the path of all the other things that used to be in my life and now, are not. I think I'll go lie down for a while.

Geek time

OK, I'm going to nerd-out here for a little bit:

Heroes is the most amazing thing to happen to TV. Ever.

Now I'm an uber-geek, I read comics, I love science fiction in any form, I was a greasy haired, tape on glasses, calculator carrying, AV working, chocolate milk drinking mega-dork in high school. So Heroes would have been the end all be all of my existence back then. Now, pretty much the same, without the grease, tape and calculator; I still enjoy the occasional chocolate milk.

It amazes me that there is finally a show on the air that really captures, in most ways, that which is best in comics. The way shots are composed, the occasionally clunky dialog, the story arcs, all evoke the same reaction in me as Powers, for instance. And, to me, it's even more amazing when I read that Tim Kring, the producer, was never a big fan of comics. Sometimes it takes an outsider to find the solution.

So I'm on call this weekend, weather is beautiful, should be no problem.

However, all this stuff is going bad, and I haven't been able to get any sleep.

Not a happy c1150. Especially for the pittance they pay me to do this 24 hour on call stuff.

Man, I'm beat.

I think I only got an hour of sleep today. Oh, I don't recall if I mentioned, I'm working 3rd shift now. 22:00 to 07:00 Sunday through Friday morning. So I've been here about an hour, it's been quiet so far [knock wood]. But, laws yes, I am tired. I really hope I get that other job, and soon. I hate living like a movie vampire, especially as I seem to be missing all of the movie vampire sexiness. Still have the pale skin though, and I think Wesley Snipes is trying to kill me. Now if I could just get the techno soundtrack to follow me around, I think it would keep me awake.

A little drunk, just caught the tail end of the first Spiderman movie. What is up with MJ macking on Peter on his dead uncle/father figure's grave? No wonder he blew her off, totally inappropriate. Bad, MJ, bad, I don't care if I hit the jackpot. [bonus points for getting that] But cereal, kinda bummed about how they make you wait to know what you know if you know the mythos. [and the academy award for the over use of the word know goes to...]

But I got some encouraging news today. My contact at my agency has said there may be a new job for me that is more in line with what I like to do, and better still, it's a regular day shift job. Hoody hoo! No details or promises yet, but I'm hopeful. For now I just need to upday my resumé, again.

More Movie Reviews No One Cares About

Another in a short list of movie reviews that come too late:

The 300: I liked it. Why? you might be asking yourself [but probably not]. It was quite entertaining in a "oh jeez! what are they going to do next" kind of way. There is also great irony in that the story of the brave and laconic Spartans is told by a long-winded guy, who left the battle. Granted it wasn't, perhaps, his choice, but it still jars a bit.

Also, I don't think the movie was as successful as Sin City in the translation from the page to film, but that may not be the director's intent.

But, on the whole, I enjoyed this movie to no end.

So I started my new position today. I think it went very well, it seems easy right now. The commute is long and a little annoying, but I knew that when I took the job. I think there maybe a possibility for advancement sooner than I thought. That would be a most pleasent situation. Well a little tired now, will post more later.

Today mine says I'll have a 5 star day. So far, I haven't been able to get a hold of the HR person at my new job to get some questions answered. At my temp job, corporate decided that they needed to migrate my email account to a new server, and apparently lost my account. Bah, 5 star day, indeed.

Snow Snow Snow

Well, the wonderful state and municipal governments of PA have once again proven they don't believe in snow. They can't other wise my street would be plowed properly and the business across the street would be able to dump the snow from their parking lot on my corner of the street.

OK, so it's been over 3 months since I posted. What can I say, didn't feel like it. But today is a little better, I start a new job at the end of February. Very excited to be back in tech, and all. Well not much else to say now, maybe later.
