Why, this isn't a review of an old movie at all

So yesterday I went and saw Iron Man. If you like comic book movies, go see this, it's as good or better that anything that has come out since the comic book movie renaissance started with the first Spider-Man movie.

If you don't like comic book movies, go see this film. It has nice easter eggs for comic nerds like me, but it doesn't beat you over the head with "This is a Comic Book Movie, see the dots from the offset printing?"

 

The cast is incredible, Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Terrence Howard. 

If you know the comic version, I think you'll like the way they updated the story. I know I liked it better than the original in many ways.

The effects were great and the transitions from practical to CGI and back were the best I've seen yet.

Anyhow, not much of a review really, just me telling you to see the movie.

Movie Review Some One Might Care About

So I just saw Spider-Man 3, it was OK. I'm still digesting what I saw but initial impressions are that it drags a lot in the middle. The effects were decent again, the story was faithful to the source in some respects and wildly different in others. I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil the movie for any one who hasn't seen it.

I guess I just didn't feel the same excitement the I felt for the other two in the series. Some how it just didn't grab me the same way, maybe because I knew the original stories too well.

Apropos of nothing, I'd also like to say I saw trailers for some truly awful looking movies. I mean honestly does the world need another Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker buddy cop movie? That's not rhetorical, the answer is a resounding NO! But the new Bourne movie looks pretty cool.

More Movie Reviews No One Cares About

Another in a short list of movie reviews that come too late:

The 300: I liked it. Why? you might be asking yourself [but probably not]. It was quite entertaining in a "oh jeez! what are they going to do next" kind of way. There is also great irony in that the story of the brave and laconic Spartans is told by a long-winded guy, who left the battle. Granted it wasn't, perhaps, his choice, but it still jars a bit.

Also, I don't think the movie was as successful as Sin City in the translation from the page to film, but that may not be the director's intent.

But, on the whole, I enjoyed this movie to no end.

V for Vendetta

OK, I've been sleeping. When I saw that they were making this movie my first thought was, "man, Alan Moore is going to be pissed." My second thought was, "I bet it'll suck, high profile actor like Hugo Weaving, V isn't going to wear a mask is he?"

I was right about the first thought, and happy to say wrong about the second. I found it to be an acceptable adaption for me at least. Not nearly as subtle as Moore's in some parts, damned ham-fisted in others, but it did make the story more accessible and understandable. The ending changed a little too much for my taste but that's entertainment for you, the masses like a neat bow at the end to let them know how to feel.
