Win some, lose some
So my replacement tendered his resignation today and was naturally asked to leave immediately. I am of mixed feelings about this, he wasn't working out so it's probably better for all that he's gone. However I am again stuck covering the shift vacated.
So I'm not exactly what one would call happy with the turn of events, I don't want to be back on the shift schedule. But it is what it is, not much point in complaining.

Taking pleasure in the little things
So it's been a rough couple of weeks. Long hours at work, a bit of travel. Not enough time to get things done. But I did finally get my car inspected. In order for my car to pass inspection, it required four new tires. I can't believe how much better my car feels now. It's quieter and smoother than it has been in years. So now I have at least one thing in my life that is smooth and quiet.

It's news, and it's good.
So my replacement has been hired. He's also coming up to speed very quickly, which is great for me. It should just be a week or two before I'm in the back office working a normal schedule. Good times. I'm really looking forward to it. Soon I will be hired on permanently, which will also be very nice.
Now to sort out the rest of my life.

Why, this isn't a review of an old movie at all
So yesterday I went and saw Iron Man. If you like comic book movies, go see this, it's as good or better that anything that has come out since the comic book movie renaissance started with the first Spider-Man movie.
If you don't like comic book movies, go see this film. It has nice easter eggs for comic nerds like me, but it doesn't beat you over the head with "This is a Comic Book Movie, see the dots from the offset printing?"
The cast is incredible, Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Terrence Howard.
If you know the comic version, I think you'll like the way they updated the story. I know I liked it better than the original in many ways.
The effects were great and the transitions from practical to CGI and back were the best I've seen yet.
Anyhow, not much of a review really, just me telling you to see the movie.

Well it's been a while
So what's going on?
My divorce is final, has been for about a month actually.
I'm up for a promotion at work, once they find a replacement for me.
I bought some new toys, a MacBook Pro and an iPod Touch.
Not too much else going on.
How are you doing?

Excelsior, True Believers
It's been a while.
My job is still awesome.
Very happy, I just went out drinking, lots of fun there was a guy there doing the music thing, I bought two of his cd's cause he was soooo awesome.
Of course I don't recall his name. And I have the Hiccups, lame.
Any how, later after I've put the cd's on my iPod, I'll let you know how awesome it is.

Movie review and so on
I just watched the Bourne Ultimatum. Very good, but then I've liked all of the Bourne movies. I'm kind of bummed the books are so old, and the movies are nothing like the books. I'd read an updated version, not mired in the cold war 80s. Another bummer, I don't think they'll be making more movies in the series.
One thing I really liked, they really tied it to the Bourne Supremacy in a way that surprised me. And, Julia Stiles is really cute, so that's nice too.
In other, even less exciting, news I want to upgrade/replace all of my computers. But I have to wait for some one's lawyer to get in touch with my lawyer before I can start budgeting.

Good news/Bad news
Or maybe it should be Great news/Kind of bad news.
Great news: I love my new job. I've been here a month and there is already talk of promotions.
Kind of bad news: The Pats lost the Superbowl. But that's nothing to get bent out of shape about.
Happy, happy c1150
p.s. I may need to register happycarl.com

Oh, update, my update
What's up with all my non-commenting readers?
Things have been fun here. My new job is progressing nicely, the Pats beat the Chargers last Sunday, I am actually happy for the first time in a long time, it seems. [I'm probably exaggerating]
I am enjoying my new job. I think there is a great possibility for me to excel, and move up in the company. It is NOC work, but it's going to be much more interesting that what I was doing before.
The Pats and the Giants meet in the Super Bowl on the 3rd. Let the hype machine begin! I can't decide if I want to try and have some friends over or go to a bar and watch the game there. Having people over could be fun, but I'm a lazy person and don't want to play host.
On the happiness front, I feel good. I'm still kind of lonely, but there are times when I really like being alone. I guess I need to find some one who is in the same boat as far as getting together some time but also liking time away from each other. Especially with my wacky schedule for at least the next 6 months.
Anyhow, how's by you? Good, yes? [it's best to imagine that in a funny accent of your choosing]

So much stuff going on
I start my new job tomorrow, I'm very excited.
The Colts lost to the Bolts, hee hee, I'm thrilled.
The Cowboys just lost to the Gmen, I'm a little indifferent, but I do love that the Pats and the Packers are the only teams that were "supposed" to win their games, and of course the Pats did.
Next week the Pats will beat the Chargers, and I sort of wish Green Bay would win so the Pats could avenge their loss from 11 years ago. But either way, the NFC isn't going to be able to beat the Pats.

Caloo Calay
I think I spelled that wrong. Never the less, I think I have an awesome job come Monday. I'm really excited. I think I'll be able to pay off my [soon to be] ex wife. And then I'll be my own man. After a fashion. I went out celebrating, so this may count as a drunk blog. Those of you that I have email addresses for can expect to get an email. and those that I don't will have to read it here.

Another fairly recent movie review
So a friend took me to see I am Legend yesterday. Having seen Omega Man in all of its Chuck Heston glory, I had some idea of what to expect. I was hopeful it would be a good film but I wasn't really expecting any great shakes.
I was wrong, it was much more affecting than I would have thought, much less of a horror movie than it first seemed to me. I really enjoyed it and it poses some interesting questions that invite discussion after the movie.
I would love to get into all of my theories, but I don't want to spoil the movie for any one that may see it. Maybe in a few weeks I'll start another thread to talk about it.

The good news just keeps piling up
Yep, that's sarcasm.
As of 06:00 Friday, I no longer have a job. After sticking with a job I hated for 9 months, with the understanding that my agency would look out for me as I was doing them a favor by putting up with all the bullshit there, they still haven't found me anything, and my contract didn't get renewed.
So we're all smiles here.

That time of year
It looks like it's that time of year where this little blog turns into my endless bitching about the incompetence of the various state and municipal agencies responsible for dealing with snow on the roads.
We are not off to a good start; all week I've been hearing on the weather, "chance of snow showers this weekend." Did the turnpike commission see the same information and say, "well, it's only a chance, why worry?" They must have, because there was no pre-snow preparation, and there where no salt truck out while it was snowing.
It boggles the mind after what happened here last February, no one thought "hey, this year lets look like we know what were doing, instead of the usual messes we have."
My taxes and tolls hard at work.
c1150 - why, no, the new meds haven't kicked in yet. Why do you ask?

Nope
"No news" does not equal "good news." I just got a call that they are going to pass on me for that job. Disappointed, [insert TMBG line here]. Not sure what I'm going to do now.

No news = good news?
So my hope to hear something by the end of this past week was not fulfilled. But, I am sticking to cliches and assuming no news is good news. We'll see how long that lasts. Other than that, there is not a whole lot going on here. I'm looking forward to the long weekend over Thanksgiving, though I don't have any plans. I just like the idea of 4 days of not thinking about or have to go to work.
