For those waiting anxiously to find out what is happening in the saga of the back of my knees, itchiness won, I stopped drinking the OJ and bought the hydrocortisone cream. So hopefully this will all go away soon. Look for a movie based on these events coming to a theatre near you in summer 2010!

Drunk blog redux
So why do we make promises to our ex-wives we don't want to keep? I totally should have been hitting on the cute girl whose husband is worse at marriage than I am, but I promised my ex that I wouldn't tell on his [cute girl's husband] latest indiscretion, which she has plenty any way, it's not like one more will really tip the balance... she doesn't get it it.
Though, she is cute...

So itchy
Hearken back to the days of yore, a young and slightly less angry c1150 had a bit more to be angry about at age 4. He found he had allergies to citric acid and cow's milk, causing eczema. So after a few years of drinking apple juice all the time, and one failed attempt to drink raw goat's milk (don't try it, it's worth your life), it seemed to go away.
Fast forward scene missing years and our angrier c1150 decides to be a bit healthier in his morning routine and drink orange juice. "Ooh, it's yummy," says our hero, "Why didn't I start this before?" Apparently because drinking one glass of orange juice a day for 4 days is enough to trigger another bout of eczema. So I'm itchy and not too happy about this whole thing, the backs of my knees and the insides of my elbows are all rashy and so on. And I still have half a jug of OJ to get through... which will win out? Thriftiness or Itchiness, it'll be quite a battle.

Get out of my brain, Lore!
It's one of those weird things, but I've been thinking to myself as I look for a new job "some times the the devil you know is better than the unknown." And then Lore gets in my brain and steals my ideas, well no not really, I don't think the devil I know will feed my cats. It's a lazy devil.

Not a blog
Or maybe nada blog. Not much posting been going on here... is it too much anger? It's so difficult to say. Perhaps I need to let my guard down and post more personal things. As an experiment, let's see how that goes:
So it ought not be a shock to most of my readers that my wife of 9 years left me back in February. If it is a shock, I'm sorry I didn't tell you personally, but I've only recently come to terms with it and made peace with my feelings on the subject. We're trying to stay friends, and it's mostly working.
One of the parts of this whole situation that I dislike intensely is that fact that I will at some point have to start dating again, if I don't want to end up the lonely guy with all the cats. Which is not entirely accurate, the again part. I feel like I never really dated, sure I had girl friends, but it was a long long time ago and I was never that smooth to begin with. So I am more than a little terrified of the prospect of meeting new people, being charming, and asking her out. Friday I did sort of take the first step by chatting up two attractive young women, and apparently did not creep them out too much. But I was still awkward, and I'm sure it was entertaining for them.
So there it is, if any one has any advice, feel free to leave it in the comments.

Good for him
So my co-worker here at the job of shame will most likely get a job offer within the week. I'm very happy for him, but a little fearful of what will happen when he leaves as the MO here is to inconvenience your truly as much as is humanly possible when there's a change. And even more fun, I heard 4th hand that my manager's manager doesn't like my attitude. I might have a better attitude if this place wasn't such a hell hole, and they'd cut down of the 'fore mentioned annoying me.

G jobs suck
If I get pulled into another damned G job I think I'll snap. A G job is a cute name I heard for a project for an owner or senior manager type in the company you work for that isn't really related to the business at hand. For instance, fixing your bosses home computer on company time, or your boss has you circumvent all the usual procedures to do a project for a company that is owned by a friend of his. Grrr.

How old is old?
A couple weeks back I was at the bar previously mentioned, the one with the older crowd, talking to the bartender who just had a birthday. Making idle chit-chat I asked how old she was, and to my unreasonable surprise I found I was 12 years older than her. As in, when I was a senior in high school she was in first grade, 12 years older. When did I become older than bartenders? I mean specifically, there should be some point on a graph some where that marks "here's where you're old" and being older than people who serve you drinks in public is it.
I think it also has a complimentary point when you realize your younger relatives, the ones you always remember as little kids, have families of their own and mortgages and so on.

I may have found my new motto
My quote a day webapp on my start page offered up this bit of wisdom from George F. Will:
"The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised."
George F. Will US editor, commentator, & columnist (1941 - )
He's not exactly my favorite person in the world, but I do think this about sums it up.
An optimist with a sense of history -- c1150

I'm an optimist or a fool
After years and years of repeated events and conditioning why do I still expect things to change? Was Pavlov wrong, or am I just a fool?
In other news, this blog is mighty amusing, but not quite safe for work, if you have people who examine logs for every little curse word.

Back home from home
I just got back from attending my uncle Dave's funeral. It was a nice service, but the best part was my uncle Greg's eulogy/remembrance. Very moving and touching, he captured so much of what is great about Dave.
It was also nice to see so much family, but not under those circumstances.
I also got to spend time with my Dad and his wife Paula after not being able to see him that last few times he was down this way.
I'm pretty wiped from the 7 1/2 hour drive, so I'll wrap this up.

Bad news and good news
The bad news first:
One of my uncles is very sick, and he's going to die soon. I haven't seen him in years, and now I won't be able to catch up with him. That's one thing I don't like about living so far from my family, it's not easy for me to go and visit. I'll miss you even more, Dave.
Now the good news:
Well if it can be considered such, maybe it's just news. I have another line on another job. No details at all except it's very close to where I live, and it's going to be a start-up big shop that is part of an established company. So again I'm hopeful, but ever the realist.

Back to Angry
So the hard rain last night wasn't enough to wash away the garbage and trash off the sidewalks. Thanks, Bickle.
My job has gotten so annoying. I'm tired of my shift relief always being late. I'm tired of imperious emails from on high that say nothing of any import, yet demand a read receipt. I'm tired of sleeping during the day and being stuck in a windowless bunker at night. I'm tired of driving 100 miles a day.
Basically I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it any more. Thanks, Beale.

Sad news
I don't know how I missed this last week:
Don Herbert, TV's Mr. Wizard died June 12th. As a kid I would always watch Mr. Wizard's World on Nickelodeon to see him lay the knowledge down on those lucky Canadian kids that got to hang out with him.
Of course, if I were one of those Canadian kids, I probably would have dragged dear old Don over to the darkside as we cackled gleefully turning everyday household items into high explosives, knock-out gas and other WMDs. I guess it's probably for the best that we never met.
Sorrowful, yet imagining the possibilities c1150

So now it's bad news
Like I thought, I didn't make the cut on the position I interviewed for on Tuesday. A little disappointing, but not unexpected. Now to decide the next step. I have no idea what that will be. Ooh, the suspense.

A little less good news
I had my interview this morning, and I think it went well. However, I don't think I'll get the position, my experience doesn't quite match what they are looking for. I may be wrong, but my gut feeling at this point is that I won't get it.
But what can you do? It is what it is. I'll just have to keep looking.

Wheels are turning, mechanisms are in motion. Tuesday, I have an interview. So excited. But trying not to get too excited.

A Realization
And, perhaps, not a good one.
So yesterday was Friday, basically my one night of the week to relax a little and have a drink or two. I was at one of my neighborhood watering holes when I realized, I've stopped going to the young peoples' college type bars and am now going to the "older people trying to drink like they're in college" type bars. What has become of c1150? Is age catching up with me? Have I become an "Older American"? Granted, I'm greying at the temples [but I'm hoping to cultivate the Nick Fury look, I may start wearing an eye-patch] and have been out of college longer than I care to think about, but really am I that old? Must be time for my nap.

A little good news
I just got some good news! I don't want to jinx it by talking about it too much, but I am pretty happy right now. I'm also dog tired, I really don't like yard work. I also hope it's not too hot for me to sleep today. OK, so maybe I'm not that happy. I'm still happier than I was, what do you want from the advanced scout of the AngryCarl collective? We're not called HappyCarl for a reason.
